Digital illustrations artist NASTPLAS - Fran Rodrìguez Learte (DrFranken) Exclusive Interview

Digital illustrations gives the artist the freedom to combine urban art and modern technology. There are so many images you can find in the world-wide web, but it takes an enthralling skill to create a digital art that would leave your audience engrossed. Nastplas, a Spanish duet of drFranken and Na is one of the few, and Ihlet got an exclusive interview for you.

KR: I have not seen any colors besides black, white and silvery gray in your artworks, but they are so astonishing you would really like to zoom in and look at it to see the details. What inspired you to focus on dark hues with your art?

drFranken: I am inspired by everything around me; the cinema, the street, internet, and especially dark environments and black color. I’m a fan of dark art.

KR: In your portfolio at nastplas.com, we can see that those are combination of photography and digital illustration. Who does your photography mostly?

drFranken: We normally use free stock photography; some artists also allow us to use some of his images, as Marcus J. Ranum, Jens Karlsson and artists from Deviantart and other communities, and others perform them ourselves. It is very difficult to get good images, because the payment image stocks are too expensive and we don´t like the quality too much.

KR: Which artwork could you show us as your most inspiring and memorable piece and why?

drFranken: The truth is that each piece has special meaning for me and I give them the same importance. Each was performed at a different mood and I like that way.

KR: Of all the places you have traveled to for your exhibitions, what place has related to your style of art the most?

drFranken: We normally exhibit in museums and art galleries online.

KR: How many years has it been since NastPlas started?

drFranken: NastPlas is Spanish duet formed by illustrator Frank R. Learte “drFranken”  and creative director Natalia Molinos aka “Na”. We begin our work in cities such as Salamanca and Valladolid, this project has been in charge of combining two different creative sides to create for high quality artworks.

We have been in the network since 5 years and we have not stopped working, but we started since some years ago.

KR: What started NastPlas and what inspired it's birth?

drFranken: Despite of our studies, in digital illustration we are self-taught, we learned little by little and we learning with every new job and challenge that come our way. Art runs in our blood, our parents, of both parties, were and are very creative in both their work and in their lives.
